Asset Protection Zone WA

What is an Asset Protection Zone?

An Asset Protection Zone (APZ) is an area that is “low risk” measured from a dwelling to native vegetation within the lot.

The creation and maintenance of an APZ are guided by specific standards and regulations that vary depending on the location, terrain type and vegetation involved. These zones are designed to protect human lives and property, and to minimise environmental impact.

The APZ is required to be managed to lower the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Rating to an acceptable level. You will get the APZ distance from the bushfire consultant, BAL Report or similar document like a Bushfire Management Plan (BMP).

Establishment and Maintenance

When your Asset Protection Zone (APZ) approved by the Local Government Authority, you will need to modify the vegetation within the APZ to comply with the Schedule 2 Standards for APZ’s to achieve the applicable BAL Rating.
